Meet Evelyn

Councilmember Evelyn Mitchell has lived in Healdsburg for more than 20 years and served as President of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Sonoma County before being elected to the Healdsburg City Council in November 2018. During her first term on City Council, Evelyn has worked to support local businesses in the aftermath of wildfires and the pandemic, has made housing affordability a priority and has sought to better balance the needs of locals vs. visitors while recognizing the incredible food and wine scene Healdsburg has to offer to locals and visitors alike.

In 2020, amidst social and civil unrest between the COVID-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement, Evelyn was appointed by her peers as Mayor following an unforeseen departure of her predecessor from City Hall. Evelyn took this role seriously—spending the next six months leading, listening and helping heal our community—the kind of leadership Healdsburg needed more than ever following a time of crisis in our traditionally quiet, family-friendly town. Evelyn’s leadership as Mayor in 2020 led to her re-appointment as Mayor in 2021—after 18 months of distinguished leadership as Mayor of Healdsburg, Evelyn continues to work hard each and every day for our community as a Healdsburg City Councilmember.

Beyond her service on the City Council, Evelyn has served on various boards and committees where she has implemented positive change, including as a:

  • Director, Zero Waste Sonoma Board

  • Council member liaison to the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce

  • Committee Member, HTID Development Grant Committee

  • Healdsburg Economic Development Steering Committee – Alternate Council Representative

  • Russian River Watershed Association

  • Health Action Sonoma County

  • Liaison to the Parks and Rec Commission

  • Member, Healdsburg High School McCord Scholarship Awards Committee

  • Member, Healdsburg High School Barnes Scholarship Awards Committee

In her personal life, Evelyn is an avid runner and animal lover.  You may see her signs around town symbolizing this with a running shoe and note that Evelyn is “running” for re-election to the Healdsburg City Council. She and her husband, Tom, who grew up in Healdsburg, bought their first home here from Kim and John Lloyd, the owners of Big John’s Market, more than 20 years ago.  They live with their two “boys” (rescue dogs): Buddy and Eli, just a few blocks from where Tom grew up.

Support Evelyn's campaign by making a donation and placing a yard sign at your home or business, walking precincts and other activities.
